Yes. It is wrong. The son was already born. He did not do anything messed up. So what more you'd ask for? There is no need to tell her son she wishes that way, since it is already late. The mother should think all of the effects she might cause by saying those unkind words. Regrets of a past would be best to stay in the past. The mother would be a fool if she tried to make a new regret in the future. I wonder if after she told her son, she'll wish she'd never told him.

Of course it's wrong. I can only imagine the damage it would cause for this person at any age. I notice you have a male avatar so I assume the mother is your wife or some other relation? If you you need to tell her not to do this to her son. She needs serious help if she's even considering telling him that. If she's already done it, talk to the son and assure him that he's done nothing to deserve this and that his mother has some kind of problem - the conversation depends on his age. If the son is you, my heart goes out to you. And please keep in mind that a person who would say such a thing has serious problems.

No its not ok. More over I would ask whats wrong with her? The son should not take it personaly, easier said then done. She didn't do it then so why talk about it now? Remind her that life still goes on, tell her to go sign up for a class down at the community college. Maybe on being nice.

Absolutely wrong!!!!What kind of woman is she? She doesn't deserve the child she has. Children are a blessing and fill ones life with incredible love, hurt, happiness, laughter, choices, they are just irreplaceable.....The hurt that child must feel is unimaginable. I'm sure she totally blew his self esteem. God, this child needs love in their life...I hope there is an Aunt, or Grandparent that will spend time and help this child learn they are worthwhile......Report this mother somehow, to someone. A guidance counselor, a pasture, an adult friend, someone, anyone, their needs to be intervention in that household before she totally messes him up for life.......God Bless

Wow! Hopefully thats not ur mom cuz I kinda wanna come and choke her right now. Even if the son did do something like murder, there is still no reason to say anything like that to anyone!

yes it is wrong. when my mother in law gets drunk she does the same thing to my husband. she calls him up and curses him out and tells him how she wishes he was never born and all kinds of crazy stuff. it messes with his head a little. but i usually disconnect the phone before she can do any more damage. its one of those things the son will have to learn to let roll off his shoulders.

No it's not alright. But, sometimes people are out of their minds when they say something, or sometimes people didn't mean exactly what they said. She could have meant that she regrets that she had him because she missed out on so many opportunities in life. But, I'm sure no parent would actually mean that, even if they said it.
On a side note, my grandmother once said that to my mom when she was really sick and dying and full of all sorts of medications. I still maintain that she didn't actually mean that.

Obviously the most popular answer is going to be yes its wrong. I think that a mother that would say that to her child, no matter what state she is in has some mental issues she needs to deal with. I wouldnt consider her to be stable and hope that the father is part of your life because you'll need someone to talk to.

That has to be one of the cruelest things a mom can say to a child. For that mother- apologize to your son before it is too late, and be the mom God created you to be, and for the son- you are precious. God created you for a purpose. No child, no matter what the reason deserves to be told this.

i've heard it said a few times to one or two of my friends

do you really mean to ASK if it's wrong?

the mother's children always say they don't care but that's something that's devastating to hear

I can understand "I wish you'd been born a boy" or something like that said jokingly but "I wish I aborted you" that's just off key, that's just so sick, even if the kid's beyond the pale, you're mum's supposed to be your first support and your last refuge that is just deep betrayal right there.

if i had it said to me i just don't know what i'd do. it would never happen, but still... that's deep.
