my insurance company won't cover my family to drive my car as they don't have an australian driving licence. they are here for a while and will be using my car instead of hiring one. I am looking for a company that does short term car insurance for overseas visitors.

Well for the life of me I can't understand why. After all over 60% of rental car companies business is with foreign nationals. Now if your visitors are already here and they hold a current drivers licence, take them to registration branch and see about an international licence. If they are not yet here, tell them to seek such licence in country of origin.Hope this helps

I'd say that your insurance company is winding you up. I've been to Oz a couple of times and never had a problem hiring a car. Ditto for over 20 other countries.

Read your policy. My guess is that you're dealing with a clueless employee at your insurance company.
