honey the only way to get them all is to wash with medicated soap. It's the only thing that kills and keeps killing. It's either that or shave your head. You can go to your doc and get a perscription for it.

I used to tech Sunday School to some really poor kids and every week I would come home with head lice. I would treat in on Sunday and they would all be killed and each Sunday I would have to do it all over again. That went on for nearly a year.

Now I used the chemical stuff and it eventually became ineffective. I had to keep using different brands of stuff to get rid of them. We sent out letters to the parents and they did nothing. However, when we sent out a letter of permisssion to treat the children without chemicals we got signatures.

So anyway, we treated the children and they never came back. We used a head lice comb and a bottle of conditioner for each child. You splodge it on (about 1/4 at a time) and comb out, and repeat. Do not rinse until done. See, the lice can't grip as the conditioner is too slippy and it also takes the eggs off the shaft.

Another thing (which is actually to remove allergens) is to wrap all pillows, blankets, duvets, etc, in garbage bags and place in the freezer for a few hours. This will kill them from bedding and such like.

Finally, if you have read all this, I know how you feel. People still believe that lice like dirty hair, but they actually like clean hair. Try not to worry, there isn't a lot you can do to stop a child getting head lice, or of re-infection.

I know it is awful.
I would check that you have also cleaned the child's hats, thoroughly power dried the pillows as well. Is she still sharing hats at school or somewhere?
A kid can easily get re-infected if the original source isn't cleaned.

If you use the chemicals to break the cycle usually they don't come back after the chemicals and thorough cleaning. Watch who your child plays with and look at their heads. She may be clean and then she catches again.

Don't pull out your hair. It takes good cleaning, and it will go away. Any animals in the house?? if so ask the health dept what to do about them.

i have went through the same thing not to long ago. my daughter got it and so of course i freaked out ..fearing that i would have to cut her hair or mine. Washed everything, vacuumed everything anything i could think of. I did use the medicated shampoos, like NIX, that will only kill the live lice. it is very important to comb with a lice comb as much as you can and to examine for any live ones left. It is a lot easier to see the live lice in daylight(I took my daughter outside every time i combed her hair)There is lice shampoos out there that are chemical free and also home remedy treatments. But only real thing that worked for my daughter was the combing and the "nit picking" everyday for a week or two. Very time consuming but when they are gone who cares what u had to do to rid of them. I got lucky and never had anything.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

My poor dear!

This has got to be one of the most frustrating and shaming of situations in our modern world. My poor cousin is going through the same rigamarole with her two little girls.

You are right NOT to use the insecticidal treatments... who needs those killing chemicals permeating right into their children's brain tissues-- much worse than the little parasites we call lice (and believe me, there are lots more parasites operating under our skin).

I suggest that you might want to try the following:

Wash your child's hair
Rinse with 4 cups of water to which you have added either 2 drops of pure, unadulterated Peppermint essential oil or Eucalyptus oil or a half a cup of raw apple cider vinegar. Massage the water/oil blend into the scalp and place either Saran wrap or a showercap on the head for a couple of hours. Then anoint your child's head with olive oil. Comb it in all over the head. Put the shower cap on the head again. At the end of 2 - 4 hours, wash the child's hair and rinse with raw apple cider vinegar in water. Put a drop of pure unadulterated Lavender or Eucalytus essential oil on the bottom of each foot when the child goes to bed. Just as healthy plants will resist lice and other parasytic insects, the essential oil will serve to strengthen the child's immune system and repel lice (and fleas, etc.) Go to this site to order the pure essential oils>>http://tinyurl.com/ykxyuk

To give yourself a break from the extreme anxiety that accompanies the perceived and actual bugginess, you might want to check out the energy psychology called Emotional Freedom Technique. You will learn how to relax again and respond with more calm and improved problem-solving energy. The site has a manual you can download for free, you can contact actual practitioners, or purchase reasonably-priced DVDs and CDs. In any case, you will benefit from the new skill set. All the best!

First of all been there done that... the stuff the hospitals even use is worthless.. Best stuff I found was called clear at walmart.. Once will kill all the live ones... then spray the carpet, chairs so on.. And the dryer will kill the one's on the pillow cases and sheets...just let run for 20-30 mins on high heat.. In like 10-14days retreat... and should cure the problem.. You will see the little devils...dying on your gloves as you do the hair..its that fast.. oh kids have hats or hoods...throw in dryer too..

i havent looked at the site that you are talking about so i dont know the risks, but when i was little my little sister and i got head lice quite a few times from school... they say that they like clean hair the best, but my hair has to be washed everyday, so not washing it wasnt an option. my mom used the lice shampoo, it prevent reinfestation for up to like a month, so that was good. make sure you put all of her stuffed animals and stuff in the dryer too and talk to her about sharing brushes and jackets and sleeping pads at school. you can get rid of them with lots of hard work, but until she stops getting so close to other kids, she will just keep getting them. dont worry, once she hits like 4th grade, she wont get them anymore probablly, it happens more frequently in younger children! good luck!

Do you have anyone that you could spend a few days with? Family/Friends?

If so you could bomb the house with a raid fogger or two.

Make sure you read and follow the directions carefully, and as soon as you set it off..get the hell out fast!

The next day go back and begin clean up, wash everything; dishes, bedding, clothes. Vaccume, sweep, mop; it will be hard work but it will get rid of all your pest problems.
