um, welllll, yes, they usually take quite a bit of getting used to for most patients. you have to eat slowly at first and sit at home reading the newspaper out loud to "re learn" how to speak.

If they LOOK weird it might be just because youdidn't have TEETH before (i don't know; maybe you had some? most?) if you don't like the way they look, go back to your dentist and explain this.

My feeling is any doc worth his/her salt is going to make sure they look OK before you walk out the door. They don't want people going "Oh, your dentures are dumb looking...who did them?" "Dr Smith" "oh, remind me not to ever see him!"

ideally, i like to work so carefully that no one notices my dentures patients even HAVE dentures!

My dad just got dentures not too long ago. He said they felt really awkward and he hated how they looked. I thought they looked perfectly normal.

He is a professor at a chiropractic college. He said lecturing was the worst thing ever. One day, he was teaching, and he said a certain word, and his dentures popped out. Luckily, he caught them before they hit the floor and broke.

He said he's fine with them now. You can't even tell he has fake teeth.

Practice, practice, practice. If you got an artificial leg, they would send you for rehabilitative therapy for 4 to 6 weeks, so lets allow at least that amount of time to get used to artificial teeth. You're using a lot of muscles you didn't have to use before and they have to get into shape. You have to learn to chew with a little food on the right and a little food on the left. Just remember that millions of people have made this difficult adjustment and you will, too. Looking back in a couple of years, you won't even remember how difficult it was.

yes. they feel weird and look weird for a while. the reason they look weird is because they aren't the teeth you are used to seeing. my dad got dentures about a year and a half ago and he lost a lot of weight because of how uncomfortable they were. good luck.
