Metabolism refers to how quickly or slowly your body burns calories. Someone with a faster metabolism will burn calories much more quickly than someone with a slow one -- meaning they will gain less (or lose more) weight. There are a few simple ways of improving your metabolism -- eating spicy foods, exercise, and eating more frequently. Eating smaller meals more frequently when dieting speeds up your metabolism and will assist in weight loss.

Metabolism is the sum of all chemicha procces in an organism, in terms of weight loss and gain it means that depending on how fast your metabolism is (how quickly you body proccesses things) and how effective it is at getting energy from food will determine how much you will need to eat to gain or lose weight. someone with a fast metabolism is actually someone with a metabolism that procceses food inefficiently and gets less energy from it, not ideal in starvation times but better for overall health. Slow metabolism is the opposite.

Metabolism is the total of all of the chemical reactions an organism needs to survive. In the case of weight maintenance (loss or gain), think about the process in terms of your body's ability to consume and process sugar (or foods that can be broken down into sugars through digestion) to release energy -- and whether than energy is used (physical activity) or stored (fat).

it depends. if your metabolism is slow, it will be gain (unless you exercise regularly and have the right diet). but if it's fast, it will be lose, no matter how much you eat (I envy those people, pigging out and having no increase in weight at all). these people are the young (mostly boys), and can be inherited. when people aged, their metabolism slows down, that explains the weight gain of older persons.

Well i can't properly explain it, but it's to with how many calories you can burn off.. someone with a high metabolism can burn off calories a lot quicker than someone with a low metabolism..

I, myself have a fast metabolism - i eat a LOT, never excersize and have hardly put on any wieght over the last 2 years..

someone with a slow one, would have maybe put on a stone or two...?

metabolism regulates how many calories you burn at rest as well as when you work out....the higher your metabolic rate the faster you burn calories.
