I think the best deal of the season is the Canon Powershot A530. It has been on sale at numberous big box stores below $130. That's a good price on a good camera. The A530 was selling for $180 not too long ago. I've recommended this camera within my own family, so I'll be living with the results of this recommendation right along with you. You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.

Go here and read an extensive review:

Skip to this page if you just want the final word:

Check the sample images, too.

If you find a little more in the budget...

If you can swing $165, you can get a Fuji F20 from Newegg. Course, you'll need a bit extra for an xD card. That's about the cheapest high quality camera that I know of. Anything below that and you're in a different class of image quality and performance.

Wow. You can now get a free case and 512Mb xD card (worth about $25) for only $175.99

This is a great deal. Trust me. The image quality on this little camera is really second to none, and has a high ISO capability that rivals DSLRs (that means it can take photos indoors without a flash).

This is the camera. If you find anything else out there that's nearly as good for anything close to this price.. you don't need to select this post as the best answer :)

My wife and I just bought a digital camera. We had no idea where to start.I subscribe to Consumer Reports magazine and they had an issue that discussed price and quality on a wide range of cameras. We did a little research and ended up and bought a camera that was one of Consumer Reports Best Buy listings in there ratings. We are very satisfied with the quality and price of the camera we got. Good luck

i have a casio exilim (bought on ebay) its 200 at stores plus like a 25$ mem stick but works BEAUTIFULLY. It has a 2.5 inch screen and 6.0 megapixels. I'm really impressed with it. I belvie that Kodak has a camera that you can buy thats less than 100, but its not very impressive. You can go thru my questions, a little bit ago I was also iquiring about cameras and got some helpful answers.

What is a good affordable camera? It's a camera that doesn't cost too much money.
