He has no idea how long he will be (could be over a year) and neither of us want to have a long distance relationship. While he isn't leaving for another 5 months he gets insanely jelous if I talk to another guy or even hang out with my friends. How can he be so commited now knowing that he is going to leave? He is in his mid 30s and I have just turned 30, and I have to admit when we met a year ago he told me he wanted to travel. Is it wrong for me to be thinking about maintaining my friendships & keeping my options open so I am not completly devestated when he leaves?

The whole situation is unfair to both of you. If you want to start looking now, then break it off with him and do so right away. "Keeping options open" sounds like you are already one foot out the door, and he is planning to leave for his travels. With neither party 100% committed, what is the point of staying together for 5 more months.

He doesn't sound heavily invested in your relationship because generally people want to be with the one they love. Willing to give you up for travel is a sign you are a fair way down the priority list and perhaps finding a short term rental to fill the gap is not appealing to him..lol I think you should end it now on the grounds that it is going nowhere and definitely you should look to keep your options open for the future. All the best with that tough situation.

Not at all,....
but you ARE doing wrong if you aren't 100% honest in how you feel about the issue. If he blows, he blows! Atleast you'll know that he REALLY wasn't worth the effort. If he says his feelings have changed, you STILL win, because then you can say, well John, i'm so sorry, but mine haven't and I thought we had agreed on no long distance commitment?.. Then you arent being a snake, and he can only blame himself.

Whoa...he is saying I am going to leave you anyway but you just do what I want till that time, then too bad so sad for you!!!! Selfish bastard. I think you should not only maintain & build your friendships but also down grade this relationship. Be glad the jealous fool is leaving.

in case you're going distant places to stay, which could be a three 12 months excursion, there could be each style of criminal themes on the topic of bringing a non-based with you. You all are authorized to be in u . s . a . that long b/c you would be on your father's orders. Your BF isn't a based and is in simple terms no longer on the orders...for this reason no longer authorized to proceed to be in u . s . a . that long. to no longer point out, the militia has regulations approximately having non-dependents residing with you in government housing...which you is often residing in in case you're distant places.

That's completely unfair.

Why should you be committed to something that'll be over soon?

Tell him to stop being a child and let go of his little blanky - you're better than that and you have a life of you own to get on with.

no...to tell you the truth...why are you prolonging the inevitable? if you are going to break up in 5 months...it is going to be a lot harder then. Breaking up now will save you both heartache...unless you want to go with him. or give it a try.

He is still your boyfriend. If you are looking for someone to take his place when he leaves, just leave him now.

I think that you should keep your options open, because there is no telling what he'l be doing while he's away.

There's a good chance he'll be playing hide the sausage himself. So, I don't know anyone who can see that far......
