I am overweight. I went to the doc and I weigh more than 350. I'm only 15 years old. Wow. I have this dark ring around my neck, under my arms, a lil on my elbows, and in between my legs and some on my knees. I've noticed for years that I'm goin' to have a weight problem intill I do somethin' about it. Ever since I was a young girl at age 8. I have gotten the ring around my neck. But I was thin. I was not overweight at all, instead I was just underweight. Past the years the ring never went away and I began to gain more weight really fast. Suddenly as I went to age 12 I saw that it was now under my arms and other places. I don't know what this thing is. I just want to get rid of it. I'm afraid that in a few years that when I do loose the weight I need to loose that the dark spots will not go away. What should I do?! Is there anythin' or anyone out there to help me with this skin problem?

Hi there,
You are beautiful no matter what. But Yes you should diet for your own health and future. My sister has always been overweight until she tried to loose weight and did quite well. She ate well drank plenty of water you should buy a 16 ounce water bottle and keep filling it up over and over again through out the day and drink about 3 to 4 times of it. She also would eat lots of green grapes that helped her loose even faster. And her Doctor told her that she had the dark ring on her body because of a hormone change/imbalance and by being overweight. She also had it on her private parts. Hope this helps good luck
Oh! go to the doctor and they can give you a bleaching cream my sister got it and it did help the dark ring went away soon.

It's called Acanthosis Nigricans. It is caused by insulin spilling over into the skin. You may be insulin resistant, this is when the insulin receptors in your body do not use the insuling you produce correctly and in turn your body produces extra insulin to compensate. This can cause rapid weight gain and problems losing weight. There is alot of information out there, check around on the the internet. Insulin is a powerful hormone, and when it's out of whack, it can cause a variety of problems in a woman's body. You may find that the problems that you are having are interrelated. If it is Acanthosis Nigricans that you have, getting your insulin under control will make a big difference.

This kind of pigmentation is supposed to be common in women with endocrinological problems, like polycystic ovaries or diabetes. It seems that these patches lighten along with the normalization of insulin levels.
Speak to your doctor about getting your blood and urine tested for hormonal imbalances and diabetes. Go on a diabetics' diet and exercise daily.

My auntie is overweight - a UK 16/18 and she has brown patches under her arms which are either alcohol intolerance ( from deoderant) or a SUGAR IMBALANCE ( i think )
seeing as it's not just there - it definately could be a sugar imbalance..

and also i do as well and i'm not overwieght at all, so it might not be a weight thing at all... idk im gonna be annoying and say see a doc if its annoying you... or wait until you lose the weight and if they are still there - then see a doc..cos it would be healthy for you to lose weight...!... dont keep putting it off...
