You will need to minimize (or stop) the bleeding with pressure - apply some form of a dressing. If there is no gauze or any such thing to hand a tea-towel or a T-shirt or whatever you can use will do fine.

Elevate the finger as best as possible. Ideally it should be held above your head, but this might not be practical for applying pressure. If you are able to lie down in the back of the ambulance or the back seat of a friend's car you can raise the finger higher than your heart and still apply pressure well.

Lying down is probably the best position for you so that you can elevate your legs if you are feeling a little light headed or turn on your side if you need to vomit.

But the real thing you need to do is get to a doctor quick! Why are you waiting for answers here on Yahoo! Answers when you know that this is the thing you need to do?

Duh!
