Make sure she's on a good diet, like Purina ONE or ProPlan. If that doesn't do it, talk to your vet about a fatty acid supplement you would add to her food. Good Luck!!

He could have an endocrine disorder. One thing that shows up a lot in cats this age is hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). You'll need to see a vet and have a blood test done. This is a good test to do on older cats anyway as part of a wellness program. If he's also losing weight despite a good or increased appetite, it's an even stronger possibility. Hyperthyroidism can lead to heart and kidney problems if not treated with medicine, surgery to remove the thyroid or radioactive iodine treatment. There are advantages and disadvantages to all these treatment options. Medicine, called methimazole, needs to be done every day, and it can be inconvenient. It controls the disease but doesn't cure it. Also, some cats are hard to "pill", and some just don't tolerate the medicine very well. Surgery is a permanent cure, but surgery always has risks. You'll also still need to give thyroid hormone pills daily to replace what he would produce normally and have him tested periodically to be sure the dose is still right. Iodine treatment is the easiest form of treatment for the cat. It's permanent and painless, nonsurgical, and doesn't hurt normal tissues. It only affects overactive tissue. However, only specially licensed animal hospitals can do this because it IS radiation. You might have to travel a long way to the facility, and the kitty would have to stay there for a while-- about a week or two-- until his radiation levels come down to a safe point. You'll also have to dispose of his stools in a special way for another week or two just to be safe. But after that, he is cured, and you won't have to deal with pills. Have his thyroid checked-- it's a simple blood test and your vet will usually get the results in just a few days.

Your cat needs a diet high in omega fatty acids. Get a better pet food that has a higher content, try a nice petshop or a vets office and they can tell you which is best.

For instant results while the omega fatty acids are working from the inside out to correct the prolem you can try a product called SheaPet. Their Herbal Moisturizing Treatment is made with sheabutter, rosemary and tea tree oil.

I use it on my cat to keep his skin and fur hydrated. It's a great product.

Once a week I beat an egg and give it to my cat. Also, beside a high quality dry food, I give her 1/4 of a can of tuna a day. Her skin and coat are absolutely beautiful. Plus, don't bathe him/her and brush him/her regularly with a soft bristled brush. Good Luck!

Check a large pet store ( pet smart, pet land.pet co,etc) they have a selection of products for this problem. I can't remember the name of the one I used, but it came with an eye dropper. You either put on there soft food or you could just put in there mouth. I done the latter so I was sure they got the full dosage. *

you may try finding a good vitamin suppliment for him....try your local pet store

also...if you bathe him regularly....stop....bathing dries out their skin. cats really don't need to be bathed....they are constantly grooming themselves and don't like to be dirty.....if he gets kind of smelly....use some of them wet wipes that are for cats.....that should take care of any odors
