It is not supposed to be taken literally.

They do not expect you to hunt down Meteors and catch them with your bare hands.

They are suggesting that you should hold onto your dreams and memories of things you wanted. You should take the good things you are handed on a silver platter and set them aside,.. not be so wasteful or ignore them.

It's these special things people so quickly forget and take advantage of *can't hear herself think over her mother's boyfriend*. In my case I should reflect on the quiet times before he was around and if I had ever been handed ear plugs even though I didn't need them,.. they sure would have paid off right now >.<

But the biggest point is to try to hang onto your precious things and your childhood,.. memories, hopes, dreams,.. they usually fade and go away. Same for your children,... don't lose that >.< If only I had a chainsaw in my pocket.

It's really really trying to say hold on to those things,.. but I have no clue what I'm typeing at this point since I can't think over the noise in reality.

Since one is expected to wish upon a falling star, to catch one and keep it is to keep your wishes and dreams alive, never let them fade away.

It refers to a person "catching" or "hooking up" with a "has been" STAR. Like David Cassidy or Nick Nolte, Valerie Bertinellie, Milli Vanilli, etc.
