Liberal and progressive Christian groups say a new computer game in which players must either convert or kill non-Christians is the wrong gift to give this holiday season and that Wal-Mart, a major video game retailer, should yank it off its shelves.

The Campaign to Defend the Constitution and the Christian Alliance for Progress, two online political groups, plan to demand today that Wal-Mart dump Left Behind: Eternal Forces, a PC game inspired by a series of Christian novels that are hugely popular, especially with teens.

The official website says this:
"There is no blood or gore in Left Behind: Eternal Forces. The game is designed to be a classic battle between good and evil, but it does not gratuitously depict violence or death."

Whatever, I don't really care much either way since I have fun with violent video games anyway. I really don't think it's very good for young children though because it's just another thing to link religion with murder. I'd try it though I'm not religious in any way.

Funny.I answered a similar question a few days ago.
This is Left Behind's response to those claims:
The makers of the game expressly deny, however, the premise as advertised. They claim that most of the people spreading information about a dominionist attitude within the game have never interviewed with or tested the game, and are spreading misinformation started by an unknown source. Any violence in the game, the makers contend, is either as a result of the riots following the rapture in the initial levels of the game, or are wholly self-defense as the main characters try to stay out of the clutches of the Antichrist-ruled "Global Community." While there is an evangelical element to the game, the makers want to emphasize the non-violent nature of evangelical activities, and the possibilities of non-violent confrontation within a video game.

Left Behind Games defends its choices by pointing out that killing depletes the unit's Spirit points. If Spirit points are sufficiently depleted, the unit becomes "lost" and defects to the Antichrist's army. "We found that adhering closely to Biblical philosophies made the game more interesting rather than less," Lyndon said. "One of the key elements of that is to make sure that the player sees that every life is important and precious.Furthermore, the game designers compare their game favorably to alternative games such as Grand Theft Auto, pointing out that Left Behind: Eternal Forces includes no sexual content, blood, decapitation, severed limbs, intestines, or vulgar language

While I don't condone violence and hatred, and I would be most upset if the Left Behind game did,I think it would be better if people found out from the game itself, rather than rumour.

I think it's awful. Yes, all violent games are awful. The most violent I tend to like to play is the Mario games and such..where its all cartoon and innocent. (I'm not sur you can even really call jumping on a mushroom with feet's head violence, anyway. You just bounce. >.>)

I haven't read the books or seen the movies, but I'm not really for the idea behind them either. I don't believe it'll happen..And all they're doing is confusing a lot of minds by thinking they are truth. But I wont get into that.

The fact 'any' game..I dont care if it's Christian based or not..can be allowed on the shelfs that wants you to kill people for difference in belief..plus with such a low rating as a Teen rating..Is scary. Aren't we trying to stop this in the world today? Not make it into a game for our kids to play. (Or..My friends, being 18 myself).

Something else that disturbed me about it is a quote I read in a review. Someone was pointing out that you lose "spirit points" if you kill an innocent person. This is supposed to help you realize not to kill needlessly. However, you can gain back your points by prayer. This is a wonderful lesson to teach people. "Oh..I dont mind if you kill that innocent person, just pray for awhile and you'll be fine. no matter how many times you keep doing it". Yes, I believe you can be forgiven for murder..But that's not so you can just go and do it again like nothing mattered. Oy.

The game defends itself saying that you are killing in a self defence situation only. Apparently Christians have the right to kill non-believers if they are trying to kill them first. Yeah..Cause that's what happened in the bible, eh? How many of the people in the bible died as martyrs? A lot. They died to 'prove' that they would not even renounce their faith in the face of death. To suggest that killing is a way of keeping your faith is..really sad.

I hope this game certainly doesn't have much influence on people.

I know Jesus would not approve. When He was at The Cross, He had the power to call on thousands of angels to free Him. But He laid down His life for everyone of us for everyone of our sins. And He asked The Father,"To forgive them, for they know not what they do." Jesus commanded us to love our brother as ourselves.

I would not buy one for my kids. It's not funny. But the sad truth is that there are religions today which kill Christians because we won't convert to their religion...and that is the truth. I hope this helps. PEACE!!!

I loved the book series and tried the demo game and that kinda sucked. But I don't see why it would be pulled off shelves considering it is a fiction book. They didn't stop showing the da vinci code in the movies. Its the same thing I think.

rather, what would Jesus have us do? Certainly not playing idiotic games based on judgment. Come on. Someone is just making money off of ignorant people.

I have trouble believing that someone would actually design a game like that but I certainly wouldn't call it Christian... convert or die? God gave us free will.

I like violent shoot-em-up games. I'm curious about this game now. I'd like to try it. I'm not religious, so I don't care about the baloney behind the controversy.
