Most Australians will say Mt Kosciuszko, which is the highest point on the mainland, but Australia's highest point is Mawson Peak on Heard Island in the Southern Ocean at 2745 metres.

Not many Australians know this. It's a great question to win bets at the pub. Or to start a brawl.

mount koziosco (spelling) it is down in the snowy mountains region
and is definetly the highest point on the australian continent
