I get really bad pony tail dents! I'll put my hair up in a pony tail for as short as 5 minutes and i get a huge (and i mean HUGE!!!!!)dent (and my hair is naturaly strait!!!)! I need advice; i cant go on looking like a fairy-tale-peasant-little-girl-person! But, don't tell me: "don't put it in a pony tail" because i am on the bball team and i can't play without it in a pony tail! Meaning its stuck in a pony tail for like 2 hours everymorning! AHHHHHH! PL3A53 H3LP!

Are you putting it up wet? My hair is very naturally straight also and I always wear it in a pony tail when not working and I get the dent as well. Try not putting it in so tight, dont use thin or narrow pony tail holders, and dont put it up while still damp from a shower. Maybe you can try twisting it up and putting a clip instead of the pony tail. My hair is too long and heavy for a clip but sometimes if I am in a hurry I will just twist it up while still a ittle damp and then put a thick scrunchie around the whole thing. When I take it down there will be no dent and I will actually have a little body to it. Try that tomorrow and see if it helps any.

It's just a guess here, since I can't see your hair but for me I have the same problem (although my hair isn't straight). I like to use the thicker elastic rubber bands. My favorite brand is Goody, they have a bit of a thicker band that doesn't dent as bad. Maybe you should try it, you can get it at any drugstore. Good luck!

EDIT: Is it long enough to put into a bun? If you can, that would be better than a ponytail because you won't get a dent in your hair when you take it down.

EDIT: Why don't you try this... take a small piece of fabric (cut it off an old shirt, if you have to) and wrap the piece of fabric around your ponytail, then put the elastic band over the fabric and that should keep the ponytail tight but help to prevent dents, since the fabric is underneath it. Give that a try, I think it'll work.

I do the same thing if I put it in too tight. I know your playing basketball, so you'll want it tight. Make sure your hair is dry. If you dry your hair finish with a cool shot from your hair dryer, especially if you put it in a pony tail right after you dry it. Try using the old school hair scrunchies. They tend to not leave dents. Me and my cousin started using them around the house when we were getting ready... Good luck!

I know and understand your plight. I have found that if I place my ponytail lower down, at the nape of my neck instead of towards the top of the crown area of my head it lays flat down and doesn't leave the dreaded "dent". Or you could try using one of those claw clippies and doing a modified french twist. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and twist it around as you pull the hair upwards, laying it up against the back of your head. Then simply secure it with the clippie thingie. Make sure to grab hair on both sides of the twisted portion to secure it. Try the one from Goodies called "octopus" it is strong and holds really well. It will keep your hair up and out of your way, and not create a dent.

I have the same problem. I don't really know of any way to *prevent* it, but if after you take your hair down you wet it slightly where the dent is and brush/smooth it out, it should look normal when it's dry.

Hope this can be of some help.

How about this: put your hair in a bun instead. Then when you take your hair down you will have big soft waves rather than a dent - particularly if you can tie it in a knot and then kind of finish it with a scrunchy.

Peace!

you have to use RUBBER bands, no scrunchies, none of those black things with the glue to hold them together, no clamps, but those big 'ol post office rubber bands (the tan ones). and if you want it to stay up forever, until YOU want it to come down,, use thick gel around the area that slouches, if no gel, use water and strong spritz

My hair is really straight; I have this same problem.
I've just learned to live with it. :( People tell me if they dampen their hair and comb/brush it this usually works.
Nothing works for me. I just leave it up.
Good luck.
