The easiest way to get a SIN number is go to a Service Canada centre. They now can issue SIN numbers in office. Temporary SIN numbers begin with a "9" and have an expiry date. You can check on www.servicecanada.gc.ca for more info. Have your friend in Canada call 1-800-206-7218 Because you have to present original ID, it is easier than mailing it away and waiting for it to come back.

Just a tip..if you get a temporary SIN that begins with "9" pay attention to the expiry dates. It saves a lot of hassle later

ya kinda have to be a citizen/ permanent resident, were you a citizen/permanent resident who moved away. If you have no leagl rights in this country/pay taxes you will not be given a SIN card temp or not.

If you are a Canadian citizen, no problem.....

If not...then I think you're screwed.
