Chocolate has trace amounts of caffeine, the simulant effects actually some from a caffeine-related compound theobromine. You can also find norepinepherine and small amounts of THC. Besides this chocolate is one of the most potent natural antioxidants with compounds similar to resveritrol in red wine. The latter would prevent long term oxidative damage perhaps slowing congitnive decline.
As far as helping you study, it all depends on you, however, the above is only significant for high coco dark chocolate. If its milk chololate the only real effect you'll fine is from the sugar.
I like to use dark chocolate as a reward for study breaks, I particularly enjoy a Darcoba product that comes from an Aztec recipie that uses hot pepers that have there own effects on physiology and biochemistry.

Chocolate has caffeine in it which is a stimulant, like coffee or pop. It may make you pay attention for a little bit, but it's an artificial awakeness and once it comes out fo your system, you may not be able to concentrate as well.
