Winter is here, means scalp is dry, flaky, it's snowing, and it ain't frozen water drops.

What can I do to alleviate that? I live in the desert in West Texas, so it's really dry here in the winter...

I went to the doctor (Virginia, USA) 2 weeks ago and he gave me a print-out on the problem. Save the co-payment, do:

Wet your hair. Wash hair with medicated shampoo. Leave on scalp for 5 minutes, Rinse off.

Do this daily until your dry scalp clears up. Then do it 2 or 3 times per week.

It suggests using shampoos that contains: ketoconazole, zinc, or selenium.

Demamoothe F/S oil is especially good for African/Americans.

Even thought its probably not dandruff still use Head & Shoulders shampoo, it has active ingredients to prevent flakiness. Also minimise the amount of hot water you wash you hair with even thought it is tempting to use allot in winter to keep warm, but try not to use such temperatures on your scalp as the skin is very sensitive.. Don't rub with a towel to dry and DON'T comb or brush the roots of your hair when they are still wet as this will definitely bring you flakiness. good luck.

What you have to do is bring out the natural oils in your hair. Baby oil will just dry up, and leave your hair wanting more and more, ultimately making your scalp and hair dependent on a product. But bring out your own oils by massaging your scalp daily and maybe adding vaseline, (another natural oil) will kick the stiff dry scalp, and winter time will have no damaging effect on your hair. you can do the same in the summer if your hair is getting fried

youre welcome
