why do we need other books?

I'm Catholic. We believe that the Bible is the true and inspired word of God, but we also believe that God established one Church to interpret the Bible so that people won't get confused by what is in it. The Bible was never meant to be used by itself. It is meant to go hand in hand with the Sacred Tradition of the Church, namely the Catholic Church.

If you want to understand the Bible better, I recommend reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Our God is not a god of confusion, that's why He gives us the Church, led by the successor of Peter, which is guided by the Holy Spirit to always teach us the truth in all matters of faith and morals.

The bible is accurate, I am not sure I understand your statement always right...but let's considerate like this - Shakespeare - Many of us do not understand it when we read it because it is deep - much like the bible. The bible truths are of the utmost importance to many us but yet we have a hard timing seeing through all of the layers - So , in that case we may chose to seek a book that gives a better understanding, not that the bible isn't right, I respect your stance as a agnostic but i would like to share 2 scriptures with you in 1 Corinthians 1: 21, 25
" For since, in the wisdom of god, through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing. "
25) Because a foolish thing of God is wiser than men....

So we can see that God provides us help to understand him...
I hope you find your answers in your search...

That seems to be the ideal of Christianity. No further education for anything is needed beyond the Bible. Murder is okay if God tells you so (though he won;t go to court for you), slavery is a good thing, and rape as a punishment is perfectly just.

What does humanity need with book-learning? Smart people just get us all in trouble.

I would never say the bible is always right, but there are lots of reasons for other books... things that happened since then, for example.

Well, if you study it

Did Jesus baptize anyone? Yes.

John 3:22
After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

No

John 4:2
Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples.

The Modern day Bible, is not the original Gospel, Jesus spoke Aramaic, a language which no longer exists and neither do original manuscripts.

[029:047] And thus We have sent down the Book (i.e. this Qur'ân) to you (O Muhammad [Peace be Upon him]), and those whom We gave the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injîl (Gospel) aforetime] believe therein as also do some of these (who are present with you now like 'Abdullâh bin Salâm) and none but the disbelievers reject Our Ayât [(proofs, signs, verses, lessons, etc.,) and deny Our Oneness of Lordship and Our Oneness of worship and Our Oneness of Our Names and Qualities: i.e. Islâmic Monotheism].

[029:048] Neither did you (O Muhammad [Peace be Upon him]) read any book before it (this Qur'ân) nor did you write any book (whatsoever) with your right hand. In that case, indeed, the followers of falsehood might have doubted.

029:049] Nay, but they, the clear Ayât [i.e. the description and the qualities of Prophet Muhammad [Peace Be Upon Him] written in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injîl (Gospel)] are preserved in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge (among the people of the Scriptures). And none but the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong doers) deny Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).

The Bible is simply the Hand Book for life. There are many other things that the Bible does not specifically address. Such as Asprin, the printing press, motocross, Superman III( the movie ),
etc.

I know that the bible is right because this is god's words to his people. Just stop and think how long the bible has been around, do you know of another book that has survived that long? I don't and it will be around until time is no more.

other books are like parables of other people's lives that run on, that's why the bible says all inspiration comes from God-he inspires us.

My son, take a warning: To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh. Ecclesiastes 12:12

Good point. Let's burn all the other books, fiction and nonfiction, including all textbooks and medical reference books. Then it would be just like the good old days, when everyone went to church and the average life expectancy was 37.
