So I have two children ages 2 and 5 and I made alittle over $10,000 this year. Could anyone give me a rough estimate based purely on this information how much I can expect to get back in taxes? Also in what month do we usually file and recieve our refunds?

If you're filing head of household, with 2 children you can receive something between $4000-$4200 for earned income credit plus federal taxes withheld. If you received advanced EIC, you must subtract it.

If you only made $10K and you have two children, you should get back everything that you paid in, maybe more with Child Earned Income Credit. You can file as soon as you receive your W2s, usually sometime in the beginning of February. Yahoo Finance has a program where you can plug in all the numbers from you W2 and it will estimate the amount of your refund.

Go to the IRS website and look for the EIC calculator. You can file as soon as you get your W-2 assuming you do not have other income. So you should be able to file in January or early February.

Running your data through the 2005 form produced an estimate of $4000.

You will get back all federal with holding and approximately $4,010 in earned income credit. W2's are required by the IRS to be postmarked by January 31st, so as soon as you receive that, you can file your taxes.
