Bathophobia~ A fear of deeply dimensioned volumes such as lakes or long hallways. Individuals suffering from Bathophobia may experience heightened levels of fear or anxiety in the presence of these objects, even though they know they are in no real danger of falling in.

F.Y.I.~ Your question was what the fear of DEEP water was. Not of water itself. Bathophobia refers more to fearing the depth of something, ie. water. Just trying to clear up any confusion....

Fear Of Deep Water

The technical term is "hydrophobia". "Hydrophobia" usually does not refer to the fear of water itself, but is sometimes applied to people who are afraid of deep water. Be careful though. Hydrophobia is also a stage of rabies infection. The more correct term is "aquaphobia", I believe. Hope this helps.

FYI, bathophobia is the fear of depths in general. It could be a fear of deep water, but it could also refer to a fear of long hallways or something similar. Point is, bathophobia isn't as applicable to this situation. Sorry to disappoint.
