It was fought between the most of the states above th 36/30 degree line, forming the Union or "North". And the States below the line forming the Confederacy or "South".

The war was essentially fought over the states right to govern themselves. The war is very complicated and had many factors but this is the most simple.

The War was fought from April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865 and was primarily fought in the South, although some battles did occur in the North as well as the West.

Doing your homework the easy way? Look up who represented the South, Confederacy, and the North, the Union. The purpose of the war wasn't just slavery... the north and south were divided on several other issues as well such as technology and trade. Virginia for example did not intend on fighting but told the north is they invaded South Carolina that they would fight the Union. The Civil War took place under Lincoln's term in office... most of the fighting took place in the South (Virginia, Georgia, etc).

You have to do your homework by yourself. I think that it is a obligation for all Americans to read and to learn about their own history and to know about the roots of this great country. History is important because is the only way to understand the idiosyncrasy and culture and how was founded your country so you can have and idea as American from where are you coming and where are you going. It is a real pity to see the lack of knowledge of the Americans kids about history and geography, start making a difference!

It was between the north and south United states. They were fighting for slavery I think. The south wanted to keep it and the north was against it. They fought here in the U.S. Not sure when though. Good Luck
