Do you want to be a good and honest person? Do good and honest people tell the truth only when they can expect a reward? The world's biggest liar will tell the truth when he can get something out of it. On the other hand, will a 51 get you into Community College and a 53 get you into Harvard? A 51 get you a job at Wal Mart and a 53 get you into medical school? Dang, I love ethical questions. School is where you prepare for life in the world. Now is the time to decide what kind of person you want to be. The ground won't open up and swallow you if you keep the grade. You might feel like a dumb *** if you tell the teacher and she lowers your grade. But I can tell you this and you can take it to the bank. There will come a time when you will be confronted with a problem where you will be tempted to tell a lie that will have huge consequences. The best way to prepare for that time is by doing the right thing, today.

Do the right thing. You know you should tell your teacher, otherwise you wouldn't be asking the question. You will feel so much better that you did. You might not get a mark from your teacher for being honest, but neither she nor you will forget it. You can be proud of yourself by saying, yes, I did the right thing. I could have taken the easy way out but I didn't. That's the stuff heroes are made of.

I'm a college professor and I've often had students tell me that I've given them too many marks (hey, I'm a humanities professor, not a math professor).
It won't earn you any bonus points so you should consider it purely a matter for your invidual conscience. Honestly, there have been moments when I've wanted to say 'I wish you hadn't told me because once you tell me, I'll HAVE to give you lower marks'.
However, you probably wouldn't have posted the question if you weren't feeling guilty so for you, it's a question of which do I value more: a few extra points or my honesty as a person.

If you really need the marks, and decide not to tell her, you will know within yourself that they weren't truely earned. And honey, 51/55 is a very good score. Maybe it will do more good if you do tell your teacher.

Well, in terms of pure ethics, you should tell the teacher. Honesty is the best policy. And, chances are she will remember this and mark you much more gently on some future assignments/quizzes.

Since you are feeling guilty about it then yes tell her, no need to get an ulcer over two points. Sometimes the teacher will actually say oh well my mistake in your favor. It is ultimately up to you, you'll know what to do.

If it were me I would tell her...she may be testing you to see if you are honest...if you dont tell her the truth she may know you are lying...honesty is always the best policy and the truth shall set you free...if you need those few extra points ask her if you can do something else to make them up--she may let you as a reward for being honest.
Good Luck!

You will get marks for being honest. Anyway, what she wrote on the paper is probably not what she put in her book where she tallies the grades.
Tell her and she will be very glad you are honestly.
