I bought this on ebay and I'm not convinced it is real, although the seller certainly was. The core does not seem to be magnetic because an ordinary paper clip slips right off of it. There are markings on the loop but I cannot make them out.

I have since learned that magnetic in this case means that it will stick to a magnet, not be magnetic on its own. It does, so it lends credence to it being real. But I'm still not 100% so if you know anything more, I'd be grateful if you let me know.

From what I can tell, both of them look real. the Iron Cross wasn't made of Iron in the later periods it was awarded- it was made of silver. So non-magnetic would make it more credible.

Their is a WWI Iron Cross medal. I dont know if the one you have is a fake or not.

Shake it , it should rattle slightly as they were made in parts , most copies are cast in one piece
