God is just and righteous, and he must punish sin. If He didn't, that wouldn't be justice, would it? Besides, he has provided a way for people to escape going to hell, it's not like people just end up there randomly. He sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross to cover all the sins of those who would accept Him. To those who don't, punishment and eternal separation from God (which includes everything even remotely good that you can think of) are what is in store.

He can do anything and He can stop people from going to hell. But He loves us enough to give us free choice. If we choose not to believe in Him and Jesus and don't take His free gift of salvation then we bring it on ourselves to go to hell. It's not God's fault.

He gave us free will. Why would anyone feel pleasure from forced love? He wanted us to choose him, to choose his way. Some people still want to ignore the gift of eternal life, they choose to go to Hell. It is very sad, God did not intend for anyone to end up in hell.

Hell is simply being banished from His presence for all eternity. Once we realize who He realy is, and realize his existence, his wonder, his power, being exiled from him will be misery. But it's what people wanted... plenty of people want nothing to do with God. He gave us free will, and that involves the choice to not believe. Which involves the consequences.

Yeah, but god likes his entertainment too. And there is nothing more entertaining than seeing a human burn. The hissing and popping. Then there is the aroma, god loves the aroma of burning flesh, check out Leviticus.

We all have free will. If we don't heed those tinges in our gut when we do something wrong they start to go away and we are off on our way to doing all the nasty things that the devil temps us with.

He chooses to let us choose. Choose me and go to the new Jerusalem or don't choose me and go to hell. Its US who decides where we go, not Him, he just tells us which door we picked.
