Hello, I'm thinking of getting one of those personal BAC measurement devices for a gift for someone. The handheld ones where you blow into it and it tells you the level of alcohol in your system. Does anyone know if these are reliable or really work? And/or could anyone recommend a brand or particular one that works well? The only thing is I don't really want to spend over $60 on one. Thanks.

I doubt the cheap ones under $60 dollars are very accurate.

I know the $100+ ones work great and many are approved by the government.

You'll most likely be charged with VC23152(a) (DUI) and VC23152(b) (over .08% BAC). Chances are pretty good that you can plea the (b) off, but that'll depend on the DA. Expect to be ordered to have the Interlock installed for 1-2 years (2 years being the more likely).

Sorry, the cheap ones don't work. They're fun for entertainment, (you can trick it by swishing Listerine to get a false positive) but the result can be way off. Might be back to the drawing board.

My friend has one, it sort of works, we kept trying it as we were drinking. After 4 beers it said I was over the limit.

If you have a friend that needs one, then do the public a favor and just give him/her the money for a cab instead.

If he gets a DUI the Judge with order one for him/her anyway-then you can save your money!!!
