There are so many places that errors can occur in medicine it's actually amazing we have so few.
Think about it .....why in the world of technology..... are doctors still hand writing prescriptions? Why are prescriptions transported in any way by the patient where they can be damaged or made unreadable? Can you read anything a prescription form says????…. no wonder pharmacists make mistakes.
Doctors also have to see so many patients just to make money. Malpractice insurance is so high it has put many doctors out of business in my state.
When you walk into a hospital, deathly ill, you could have one of thousands of diseases or problems. Doctors are NOT trying to figure out what you have……. they are trying to figure out what you don't have.
Why do you think they call up practicing medicine????? It's not because they've gotten it right yet.

well......you always hear the expression "practicing medicine". Thats because medicine, along with surgeries and such are not "perfect" there are always ways to improve. Therefore, the science of medicine is not an exact science. There are many factors that determine what medicines and procedures are safe and sometimes the only option is to try a risky procedure. So, everyone makes mistakes. You always have the choice of not going to a doctor, just let nature take its course. But, if you choose to go, you have to understand that medicine is not foolproof.

Doctors definitely make mistakes despite all attempts by oversight to prevent mistakes. ALL health care consumers need to ask questions and get second and maybe even third opinions before making major medical decisions. When you have a complicated diagnosis and multiple appointments with several doctors and multiple medications, it makes sense to keep a notebook handy with pertinent medical records. Have a trusted doctor or nurse review it with you now and then to make sure that something has not been overlooked.
