Hey Michelle,

Vital Records cost money to maintain. Most records departments use Genealogists to fund some of the expenses for keeping these records. So, for free - you need to find someone that already has the record - GENFORUM is one place you can ask for that. But, that is a shot in the dark. I would rather pay for the record than wait for the off chance that someone has what I want.

That said, here are some vital record sites, and some information on Mexico Vital Records.

PS - I am having trouble with the hotels internet, you can search for : "MEXICAN VITAL RECORDS", in Yahoo Search to find some really good places that will explain exactly what you need to do.

Most vital statistic information on Mexican citizens: births, deaths, marriages, etc. are maintained by individual Mexican municipalities, not by the country of Mexico.

Many Mexican citizens did not, or do not, register births, deaths, and/or marriages.

Tracing ones Mexican ancestry, without written family records, may be difficult. One source might be Catholic church records in the area you believe your ancestors might have lived.

Should you be attempting to determine legal or illegal immigrant status of a particular individual or family, forget it! The U.S. Government, with its FBI, CIA, and NIS hasn't been able, or willing, to unravel this mess.

Mexico is not concerned about keeping records of their citizens,:and now, apparently, the U.S. is as unconcerned as Mexico about accountability for Mexicans entering the U.S., whether legal or illegal.

The only thing I can think of is GOOGLE. Search that subject and see what comes up.
