You need to get the one year old to the ER. They will work out a billing plan for you.

Try a cool a bath. A dose of baby tylenol. Call the ER and ask about the temp for the child and any other symptoms they may be experiencing. The baby could be cutting teeth and be getting a fever and possibly an ear infection which would 'cause the fever to get worst.

That child's health is far more concerning than a bill after the visit. As a parent, tell her to do everything she can for that baby. There's always help to pay off hospital bills and things like that.

This fever isn't too high, so she shouldn't worry too much BUT... Here is a tried and true way of bringing down a fever, trust me!! First bathe the child in a tub of cool water, not cold. Second, leave the child in just a diaper or diaper and thin t-shirt, most importantly, rotate tylenol and motrin every 2 hours. I know you think you can't give that much but you can if you rotate them. You CANT give one or the other every two hours though. Check the temp. rectally (it's most accurate). Keep a cool washcloth on the child's head until fever is gone. Remember, a fever is there for a reason, to fight off a virus or sickness of some kind. I really wouldn't suggest doing any of these things unless the temp. reaches 103 degrees. It is safe because the fever needs time to work, to natually fight off the cause of illness. I've used this method for years with my children(my nurse told me about it) it has never failed me or most importantly, my babies. Good Luck:) P.S. Never take a temp. on the forehead because it is so not accurate. You should do it in the rectum or at least under the arm with a digial or mercury (preferably).

101.6 is not actually that bad of a temperature for a 1 year old. I know it sounds bad and it's high for someone like us, but my son had like a 102.5 - 103 temperature after his MMR shot and I called a nurses line that my insurance offers because I thought it was a high temperature.

They said that I didn't have to take him to a hospital. They told me to give my son baby tylonol. Give the baby some baby tylonol. My nurse told me that sometimes the first dose doesn't work, but the second will usually. (Just make sure you wait the proper time before giving the second dose.)

If the feaver doesn't go down after the second dose or the temperature gets near 103, she should call her pediatrician and get a recommendation.

Or Give the baby some tylonol and have her call the pediatrician rignt now and get some instruction. The Peidatrician can tell her what's considered normal and when she should take him in.

Use tylenol or childrens motrin or childrens advil. A temp of 101.6 really isnt that high. Just make sure the fever comes down after the medicine, if not then an emergency room will see you weather you have money or not.

You do not take a baby to the hospital for a 101.6.

Baby's run temperatures sometimes. She needs to watch for dehydration and a rising temperature.

Tylenol is the best bet. If the fever does not go away within a few days she would want to consult a doctor.

Don't panic. Can you take the temperature rectally? That will give you the most accurate reading. Forehead readings are notorious for being wrong. If its not wrong immediately put a cool cloth on her forehead to help bring down the fever but also take the kid to the hospital. If she has a high fever for to long it can cause serious damage. After the kid gets better go on the Internet and type in medicare or something. I know in Illinois Allkids provides free medical insurance for all kids.

Anywhere from 97 to 99 or so. Everyone is different.
The doctor has told me that kids can have a 104 temp and still play like it doesn't bother them. It depends on how they feel. Tylenol or if age appropriate Motrin. A cool bath not cold and not too warm. A cool washcloth rub down. They do say that you shouldn't let them have a fever for days. Something about their brain.
She should be able to call and ask them for ideas. What about a health department. Visiting Nurses Association?

Calm down, folks, a fever all by itself is not an emergency. Children tend to run fevers higher than adults. I have it from my parenting-medical book that a one-year old may have a fever of 103 for 24 hours before it is necessary to call the doctor. A one-year old can have a fever of 100 to 103 for three days before it is necessary to call the doctor. Home treatments are tylenol, normal baths, popcicles (there is a healthier pedialyte popsicle for very young children), more frequent breastfeedings, pushing the fluids. Check out this webpage for information on how to take a temperature, medicine dosages for babies, and other symptoms to watch for.

Slow down! Give her some baby tylenol or motrin. The fever will likely come down. It is not like the feer is 104 or something. She should monitor through the night and give more meds every 4 hrs. If the fever is still high she can double dose the motrin then in 2 hrs tylenol.
