ok i dont get irritated easily but when i do your gonna hear it. yes i would love some one to start that kind of pettition (might chech with your local wic office or welfare office) heres why im p****ed off. 1) some one suggested breastfeeding isnt that hard almost n e one can do it. well dont try telling me that BS. i tried nursing my daughter for 6-8 months 2-3 hrs at a time every 4 hrs and still had to supplement her with 6 oz of formula cause guess what? im a teen mom and no one ever told me theres something wrong, go get it checked out. i gave up after almost 8 months b/c her pediatriucian had to tell me i wasnt producing but about 4 oz of milk per DAAAY. so on top of this wic was only giving me 24 cans of formula a month and since she is lactose intollerant she was tried on every formula you can think of b4 they put her on nutramigen, one of the most expensive. i didnt have the choice of giving her a cheaper brand, i didnt have the option of giving her evaporated milk. so lets do the math 30-31 days a month: 1 can per day(RTU b/c thats all wic would wrrite out for us): 24 wic cans: im still short 6 or 7 cans. and with no income except for a $550 check on the first for 2 adults and an infant. yea the prices are a lil rediculous.i hope you get you petition and it at least makes a lil difference cause a bunch of little differences can lead to a big difference with the right people behind it. not the ppl that say your wasting your time

I wouldn't sign is.
1. Would you REALLY buy the cheapest formula? Part of the problem is that most moms would NOT buy the cheapest formula, and would buy the upscale stuff thinking it's better!
2. Formula is made by several different companies. Therefore, it is subject to the laws of supply and demand. While not perfect all the time, in the long run it insures that the consumer pays a fair price and the product is manufactured in the most efficient way.
3. Isn't that what WIC (Women, Infants, Children) welfare is for here in the USA? I don't know about where you live, but here a huge percentage of parents pay for formula via WIC!
4. At $25 per can, lasting 4 days (your worst-case scenario), that's about $6 per day. I don't think that anyone else in your family is fed on $6 per day.
Look, I was once a young, broke parent trying to pay for diapers and formula too. We all stagger thru it. Before you know it, junior is starting to eat food, and drink water and juice, and this is all a forgotten part of your life.

There are many options for feeding a baby other than using infant, expensive formula. One, of course, is nursing, pumping and freezing it for future use, formula also comes in a powder form that is much less expensive, you just have to take the time to mix it with water. If you do research you will find you can also use evaporated milk, just make sure you add some kind of sugar, like Karo Syrup to keep the baby from becoming constipated. I think any petition would be a waste of time, do some research and find how many options there are for feeding an infant. We think of formula because that is the easiest, but it is certainly not the cheapest and many countries don't have formula at all.

Price is set by market pressure in a free society, and problems like this should not be addressed by trying to make the government control us with more laws!!!
The best way to fix this, if you think the price is unreasonable, is to start a company that produces formula and sells it cheaper (if that's even possible). Supply vs. Demand. If you increase supply, and provide competition, the other companies will be forced to lower their prices, or give up market share to YOU.
On the other hand, if you have the government artificially force the price down, it could go below the point where it's profitable to make the product, and the companies that currently produce formula could close down; forcing supply to dwindle even further, which should naturally force prices higher; but with government caps on prices, it'll just create a "black market".
So, if you want to make it better, I think you need to start making formula; not laws.

I recently heard Walmart is negotiating lower formula costs.
Really I don't think it's a big deal. Very few woman "can't" breastfeed, they just give up because it's not as easy as 1-2-3. And there is a program called WIC that covers the cost of formula for low income families. If someone makes too much for the subsidy then he/she needs to suck it up and pay the cost out of pocket.

No one will care at least the companies, if you are not on Wic & can hardly afford it...tough spot. Also formula is very expensive in part because hey send out so many darn free can & discount coupons I nurse & get at least 50 dollars in similac coupons per month, I just hand them off to a friend who spends less than 20 on formula a month w/them....work the system

well if you'd stick to breastfeeding then you wouldnt have this problem. its what i plan to do. sore nipples and all. if i had to go to work/school/somewhere away from baby, i'd pump that milk and keep steppin. if more women did research on how breastfeeding is better *if you look at formula commercials they will tell you the same* then you'd save so much money its insane.
but i wouldnt sign it just for the simple fact that everyone always starts these things...and i never actually see what a difference it makes. sounds like you just get ppls hopes up and nothing works out the way you want. sorry to be a spoiled sport, but thats how i see it.
love jen

I agree with you 100%, I have 4 children and they are ripping us off with the cost of formula, to feed our little ones, but I don't think it is going to make a difference either way, I support what you would try to do, but I agree with the first answer it is probably going to be a waist of time and that is why the now make generic versions of formula which are fine to use as well...
