If you have a purebred dog but you don't have any papers, is it possible to have the dog certified?

It is possible but you will need to do some work.
Go to AKC.org and follow the website topics to find the directions to learn what documentation you will need. You will need the parents proof of being registered, grandparents too. If you can trace the puppies lineage with the cooperation of the breeders in its history you can do it.

If the dog's litter was registered when it was born then it should be easier because it would sort of be in the system but not fully registered, but you'll still need proof of dates from the breeder.

If you are in the US and want to enter your dog into competition, you can get an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privilege) number from AKC.

This number will allow you to enter into Agility, Obedience, etc., but you can't show in Conformation, nor can it be used for breeding purposes.

If your dog's parents are both AKC registered and the breeder failed to register the litter, with a lot of work and a good deal of money, you can get your dog registered. If both parents weren't registered with AKC, though, you can't register your dog.

Here is the ILP site on AKC: http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm

(you can click on 'registration' on that page and get more info, as well)

provided that it has papers from a professional kennel club contained in the country you're figuring out to purchase from. a good type of something of the international makes use of FCI. England makes use of the Kennel club. It isn't more inexpensive with delivery or the substitute price. I assure it.

Certified for what?

If you mean AKC registered, no.

If you want to compete in performance events, you can get an AKC ILP (Indefinite Listing Priveledge) number to compete with, but your dog must be neutered.

There are a variety of sham registries that will give you "papers", but they don't mean anything and aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

I know of a woman who rescued a Collie and wanted to be able to participate in AKC sanctioned agility trials. She paid a fee of $20 and submitted a photo along with vet opinions to confirm the dog was likely a purebreed. The dog was required to be altered, could not do conformation, but could participate in all aspects of AKC sanctioned sports, like agility and obedience to name a couple.

Yes it is possible, BUT you must have both parents names and registration numbers. You also need to know who the parents are registered with.

i'm not 100% sure but i beleave if you go and get a DNA test done it shows the breed, witch in return you have pruff of the breed, you then can take those papers and get your dog ADBA, or even UKC registered. if you know the parents name you can find the exact bloodline, only if there registered. there is ways to do so. its well worth trying.
