Since thanksgiving I've felt very empty, hollow, and joyless, and I've been experiencing most of the telltale signs of depression, change in appetite, abnormal sleep patterns, excessive crying, discouragement, loss of joy in activities that once brought joy, etc.
It all stems from a late november conversation, I finally told this girl who is a really close friend of mine that I didn't want to make our friendship awkward but I was in love with her. Well she said she loved me too-like a brother...unfortunately it has been awkward-we're barely speaking. We were very close so that hurt, but I expected to get over it after a little intense grieving that she didn't share my feelings. I have confided what happened to close friends.
I have forced myself to get back out their socially. I have put my mind into, work;music;anything, but it always makes me somber. Is this a normal amount of time to be saddened? When will it get better? Or do I need some medical help?

Sweetie, you are suffering the side effects of a divorce. Even though you were never officially together. Because you loved her so much and she walked away, you are literally mourning a death of a love and one of a friendship. I don't think you have regular depression because yours will pass with time. You are doing the right thing. Allow yourself to morn for as long as you need too. One day you will wake up and it will have passed.
Good luck

Yeah, I expirenced the same after my boyfriend left me for another girl.

Rejection is hard to take. I felt like I was a huge pile of crap for about two months, and I went through all the emotions you are going through. It does get better, but it takes time. My suggestion is don't dwell on it. Find a nice hobby or something. Join an online dating site!

Depression is feeling blue and like no one else understands. Major depression is suicidal thoughts, feeling that you have nothing to live for, and it lasts until treated.
I think you might have depression.Have a talk to a doctor or counsellor. 1 in 3 people suffer depression so don't feel alone, and don't try to treat it on your own. xox

You could talk to your doctor about something temporally. Just be careful and take care of yourself. I am sorry that you have been sad-just don't give up you have your whole life to live-be happy! You have a tender heart and people that are tender hearted are hurt easily. There is always tomorrow-SMILE
