Let me ask a different way. My daughter is home with my grand daughter and taking care of her while being sick. Does she (my daughter) need a note from the doctor for my grand daughter being sick to her(my daughter) work?

As mentioned before will depend on your company's policies.
In my case, my employer will take my child's sick day as I am sick, and of course I will receive payment up to the time stablished on my contract, so, If I have to demostrate that I was sick and that was the reason to don't show up, I will need to do the same with my child.

It depends upon your work policies, what is in your hand book..it is always a good idea, my last job required it only if I was out more than 2 days with mine...

It probably is not necessary but I personally would give your job a copy so that it can be on your file in case they ever question how many days you have missed. That way at least it shows them you had a legitimate reason for missing.

I don;t know if it is required but to cover your own behind I say yes that way they have proof that you was not just taking time off to goof around. It also males you look responsible and it lets them know you are telling the truth
