I agree with doing it to write text messages as you can fit more into one text so you save money, but as for it being easier to use when typing and using MSN, that's just plain laziness.
If pupils were required to write actual essays these days, then they'd find they had to learn to type quickly anyway, and then they could still write in full words and sentences when online.
Plus, it's just bloody ridiculous that the government has now said it's not going to penalise pupils for using this kind of language in English exams- some may choose to call it evolution, but how far are we going to get if the next generation can't communicate fluently in their own language, especially when the rest of the world can?
We don't want to teach kids English properly, and we really don't seem to want them to learn any foreign languages; it's just shameful.

We don't use it because it makes us look cool, its quicker to type. Although on things like this I really don't see the need for it. But on instant messaging you want to get your message along quicker. When I first started using MSN I had to adapt to this quickly or not understand a word anyone was saying, but then I started findin it lots quicker 2 type lyk dis cos most of da words r shortend nd much quicker 2 type.
its lyk y do u use slang round ur mates but proper English around people when you want to have a proper conversation instd of jus chattin w/ ur m8s.

some would say it's progress, evolution if you will. Our language has been truncated to a level that makes communication using digital text quick and easy.
It looks daft to us adults, but then does semophore look particularly straight forward, can you yourself understand Morse code, do you read braille?
It's just a case of horses for courses basically. If you don't like it don't use it.

I agree. It's lazy, incomprehensible & awful. It might lose one of those three with time but it's still an abomination. English is a beautiful language. It's such a shame to see it mauled like that.

Children write like that because most of them have cell phones that send text messages and this alows them to communicate or type faster.
