Yes, there are vets that have further education & get a veterinary dental degree. I had a Rottweiler with tooth alignment problems that had to have a root canal & crown - beyond what the vets I worked for did & had to take her to one. You can ask your regular vet to reccomend one - if he/she deems it necessary & you are willing to pay the higher prices of a specialist.

The Vet usually does the work on a dog's teeth. If your pet is in need of something outside of the Vet's knowledge, human dentists are used.

Check with your vet, they should be able to either provide treatment or recommend someone to provide treatment in your home. You should always check your dog's teeth, just like you check her paws... These are often "hidden" injury areas that can go from not-so-bad to really bad. Your vet should be able to work with you and your dog so that you can learn how to brush her teeth to help her maintain healthy a mouth. Good luck!

Many vets these days are trained in doggy dentistry to a certain degree. If a dog's dental problems are real serious, there are vet schools and specialists that usually can handle it. Your vet most probably knows who to contact when a dog comes in that needs more serious dental work then the vet is able to give.

Your local vet is able to do teeth-cleaning and teeth removal (if that is the case). Your vet is also your dog's dentist.

You can schedule a teeth cleaning with your vet. You'll probably have to drop your dog off at the vet's in the morning. They'll have to sedate him/her. After that, the procedure is pretty much like you or I having our teeth cleaned.

Yes. Most vets just do cleaning, polishing, and extractions. Your vet can refer you to their favorite pet dentists. There, rather than extracting teeth with exposed pulp cavities, they can do root canals among other things to make your dog have a prettier, healthier smile. ;)
