They've been before several times, but we've never asked that question.

Thank you all... They are 5 years old now (twins) This is the first baby tooth to come out. There is no decay. They were at the dentist about 4 months ago and he predicted it would come out. And yes, they have been seen regularly since just before 3. They will likley go again in two months, but I just wanted to know if I should wait.

No.
Your kids should be going every 6 months for checkups and cleanings. If there is a problem they should go, but not when they lose teeth normally.

The loss of baby teeth generally means decay or the natural losing of these teeth in order to allow space for the next set.

Should only require a doctor visit if you notice decay on the tooth that has come out.

Remember beginning at age two, all children should regularly be taken to the dentist for their overall well being.

After your additional details: Wait. Baby teeth falling out is natural and happens with very healthy teeth. It is natures way of making room for the permanent teeth that are already in their jawlines. The ages that they will loose the teeth are approximate. Some will fall out earlier and some later. If you started taking them to the dentist regularly prior to this, GREAT! They have a good start on their dental health. Regular checkups will let the dentist evaluate how their permanent teeth are coming in as the baby teeth fall out.

You should start brushing and flossing as soon as they really have teeth. You can start the dentist as early as age 2. Usually 4 though. Depends on your dentist really.

I dont see why. Unless you notice soemthing wrong, or she has two teeth comin in its place. Just bring up how many she has lost at her next checkup...which should have started at 2 years old and then every 6 months thereafter....

No you are not. If it was fine and there was no decay, no. If they complain that it hurts or it looks bad show them how to put a straw through the hole.

if you have already taken them to the dentist and they had ex-rays done then I wouldn't bother to take them...the dentist already would have seen if they have adult teeth or not...they would have told you if they had any concersons.
