yeah the person who wrote the question must have reported you,, I once answered a question that asked are you neat, and I said I was Felix Unger meaning neat,, and got a violation,, so I quit answering for awhile,, then another question was about C programming so I answered get the C+ programming for dummies book,, which there are a bunch of those kinds of books,, I saw several in the check out line at walmart today,,, and I got a violation,, so I dont know who is the actual judge of doing the violation but they should know what they are talking about before dinging us

Well, you're supposed to be answering questions, not posting spam. If it makes you feel any better, I got a violation for posting an answer like that. But it was a REALLY stupid question insulting someone else. I thought it would make them look silly if I put an answer like "2 pts!" as a response, so I did. The question got deleted, but when they deleted it I think they saw my answer and gave me a violation. -10 points for an answer to a question that was deleted anyway! Oh, well. I have over 13000 points now. I understand the policy, but sometimes the questions are VERY stupid and I can't help but give stupid answers like that. Have a nice day!

Well, you're not supposed to answer unless you actually HAVE an answer. People who write 'thanks for the two points' are abusing the system. That's probably why you were reported.

The easiest way to avoid being reported is to always give a respectful answer, even if it isn't helpful.
