W-2's must be mailed to the employee by January 31.
The normal time to file your taxes is between January and April 15. Since April 15 is a Sunday in 2007, the deadline is April 16. You can get an automatic extension until October 15, but you have to file a form to get it. If you need longer, you have to file again, and have an acceptable reason, approval is not automatic. Even if you have an extension, you're still required to pay any taxes owed by April 15.

Your taxes have to be filed by April 15 following the year of earnings. If you have a GOOD reason, you can get an extension until Oct 15.
If my tax memory is working tonight, I believe that you must receive your W-2's by Feb. 15.
If you have left a job and they can't find you then you can use your last paystub to pay your taxes and then "Ammend your return" later.
If you have worked in a job where they paid commission and no withholding etc. you should receive a 1099 that you will use instead of a W-2.
