Hi,
I was just wondering if it was worth it to actually get the extended warranty Best Buy offers for TVs. I can understand getting the warranty for a laptop as you can carry it around with you and there are many different parts inside but for a TV I'm not so sure. If you buy a good quality TV (in my case LG) should you really worry about it breaking down in under 3 years? Just curious as $300 is a lot to pay for a warranty.
Thanks.

DAN

If you invest in a really really expensive TV then I would get a warranty. But warranty's are expensive. When they warranty is such a large percentage of the TV is it really worth it? I worked at Best Buy and have seen the pros and cons. If certain things do go wrong they MAY BE able to fix it. Ever heard of the Lemon Policy? If it breaks 3 times, then that is when you get a new one. Some people think they would get a BRAND NEW TV if anything goes wrong. That is NOT the case 95% of the time. The warranty does not cover everything. What if your TV never breaks and you wasted the money? Or what if the TV breaks and your warranty doesn't cover the problem. It is up to you. I would only invest in a tv that was very expensive. Then it maybe it would be worth it. But it is truly up to you.

Unless you're buying a really large TV, it's not worth the cost to purchase an extended warranty. Most electronics nowadays made from reputable manufacturers are realiably built and can outlast the warranty easily.

Just read an article in U.S. News and World Report on this... It said that if you're buying a new HD TV like a plasma or LCD or HSD, that you can expect to be replacing it in another five years -- because it's technology will be so outdated. So, how much do you intend to spend and how long do you intend to hang on to your new TV? Chances are, no, the extended warranty would be a waste of cash.

NO

If, in general it saved you money, then in general the cost of repairs would be greater than the cost of the warranty, in which case the warranty carrier would lose money. Do you think they would want to do that?

Its like insurance. Sometimes they pay out, but on the whole, they pay out less than they take in, which is how they pay employees, overhead and profit.

Go to your local library & check out Consumer Reports findings
on warranty & customer sadisfaction for the mfg. or vendor.
Extended warranties are great on some products,& a total waste
of money on others.
Just a thought,but $100 pr.yr. seems a bit pricey to me.

No it is not effective to get the extended warranty. Just get a credit card with buyer protection plans.
