Any aggressive dog, has a natural instinct to aim for the throat, when in a fight.
That has nothing to do with the breed, and no breed should be categorized, by the occasional aggressive dog that happens to be that breed.
That's how Pit Bulls got their bad rep, along with Dalmations, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, Dobermans, etc.
They're all wonderful dogs. Some are just trained to be aggressive.

No dog is innately viscious, it is the people who train the dogs. If you do everything properly, you are fine. To the first person that answered, it is NOT pitbulls either! There is far too much ignorance about this subject and it needs to be stopped. If you want a bulldog, get a bulldog! I know plenty of wonderfully cuddlable, lovable, albeit slobbery, bulldogs. (pitbulls too, while I'm at it.)

Bull dogs are NOT viscious remember is not the breed is the human. But these dogs are a stronger breed if you are not a solid personality do not get one they are very stubborn and if you are a weak person they do pick up on that and will become dominant of you which that is a big no no. About them aiming for the throat that is true they were bred to fight and to do the qiuck kill which is the neck. Is the HUMAN'S responsibility to train their dog right.

first, clarify what type of Bulldog you are talking about. There are Pitbulls which old timers call Bulldogs, there are English bulldogs, and American Bulldogs. So which one? Pitbulls are not mean. it is how they are raised and breed. American Bulldogs have bad raps to but I have heard they are great to if properly raised and breed. and Most English Bulldogs are just big babies in general but can be encouraged to be mean. So it depends on alot of things.

No, they don't flow at all. Very solid.
Ahem, sorry about that, I'm picky about spelling. Bulldogs used to be bred to bait bulls. They would grab the bull's snout and never let go. But that sport is outlawed now, and the breed has been more focused on friendliness to people. Your average bulldog is solid, patient, and low-energy.

I would like to see a Bulldog TRY to lunge at someone's throat...they couldn't reach one over 2 feet off the ground! Thanks for the mental image & great laugh.
The breed has been changed GREATLY over the past 100 years - they can't even be born naturally because of their large heads & wide shoulders. The 'gameness' has also been bred out of them. Now, they pretty much waddle around struggling to breathe & are low-exercise requirement housedogs.

if your talking english bulldog, thats funny. those toads can barely walk anymore let alone jump. any dog of medium size could jump and bite your throat. "pit bulls" have passed the american temperment testing society (www.atts.org) with a rate of 83.5%. the same temperment rating as labs or golden retrievers. but they are actually lower on the bite list according to the CDC. your friend is obviously a media zombie

some bulldogs are used to hurt people and animals. but i would have to say in my opinion never get close to one just in case well unless it was yours and the way you trained it and everything including friends there ok. but alot of them are used for betting and can be dangerous.
