Emmigrants, from hundred and fifty years ago, came to this country, because they wanted to and to have a better life. They came to America soil with Love and Proud to be here. It was their dream. They saved scarce money to come here. When they arrived they worked hard, applied to be citizens, were honest and good to the core. Did not try to abuse the ones who came to America before them. They wanted to be good Americans and almost all of them were. Had the early emmigrants done what the Illegal emmigrants do today, they would have been told by our Departments of Emmigration to get out. If you don't Love this country you worked so hard to come to and you make us hang our head in shame, then leave the American soil. Go back to where you came from. Why on earth would anyone even want to be in this Great Country, if they did not Love it ? Did they come to be dis-honest and take away from us who were born here ?? So in other words, If the emmigrants don't want to be Good, then leave our Country. Is this asking too much ?? Our Ancestors had Respect for America. Even the early Mexican Emmigrants had Respect. They knew the Laws and Rules of this Land. And they Loved it here. They knew if they didn't Love America, then they would go back to Mexico. All emmigrants need to use common sense. It is not a free ride.

Its not about loving the country as a place (who wouldn't love all the great scenery) but about complaining about the direction the country is headed. I believe the slogan appeared during the Vietnam era as a way to shut up the war protesters. Personally, I don't like what America stands for at this point in time, so my slogan would be "America: Love it or work to change it into something worth loving."

It is the excuse used by people who think that this counrty does no wrong in the world and is perfect at home, used when someone questions the policies of our government. Lame way to try and get out of a debate rather than understand that this country was founded on the premise of dissent. Too bad people who use that phrase do not understand American history.

I believe you mean the phrase "...love it or leave it"
This refers to the fact that many on the far left have no love for America or it's society. Let me try to explain, as there are many reasons for this:
1. Liberal indoctrination in schools/colleges, selling that capitalism is wrong, and that American society is innately prejudiced and culturally biased.
2. Liberal self loathing: Americans are rich, healthy, and well educated--how dare we be so good?
3. Unlike Europe, we are more capitalist, and we take action against the world's agressors. This would seem to be a good thing, but to most Liberals we are trying to show the world we are "top dog" again.
4. We should be willing to destroy Israel to show the world we love them. Even many Liberal Jews want to sell off Israel piece by piece to the Arab world, all to show we are "Good people".
In Summary, it is the abnormal thinking of Liberalism that both encourages hatred for the USA. This sort of thinking is odd when espoused by Americans taking advantage of said system of Freedom and Capitalism.
To which most of us say, "USA---love it or leave it!"
The problem is they don't want to leave;)

Because they act unilateraly on Iraq (i think in violation of the UN charter), they don't want to sign the Kyoto protocol, they are critisizing other countries' human rights policy but it is also violating it (guantanamo, Iraq, European secret prisons)

Get along with them and find common ground.
We are not that different. (Speaking as a Canadian).

What could be simpler? Love it, or leave it. Is it really that hard to understand? If you don't love this country, don't expect to feel welcome here!
