Most likely he would be sent to a technical school after basic. That is where he'd learn an occupational specialty--cook, air police, refueling specialist, cryto worker, whatever. Some of the advanced courses are here in San Antonio but most likely he would be shipped to another base for that training. All basic training for the Air Force is here at Lackland, AFB. Depending upon the specialty it could actually take a lot longer than four months.

Basic training was 6 and 1/2 weeks, When I left in Aug of 2005 they were talking about trying to make it longer than that, but I doubt that it has been put into effect yet.

After basic training is tech school. Each tech school is different. Mine was 6 months long, some can be shorter and some can be longer. It depends on your job.

you go to AI(tech) school, which can be far longer than 4 months, but it isn't that difficult. usually where everyone gets their first peice of tail after bootcamp, because the rules are a little more relaxed.
then you get stationed wherever they want to put you, which will most likely be the Middle East, currently!

or you'll get stationed somewhere where the foriegn women will probably love men in uniform.

You have two channels to go through: 1. you go to a technical training center for additional training in your profession or 2. you go straight to your assignment for on the job training or OJT.

Tell your boy friend he made the right choice.
