I know that as a Jewish male, he should have been circumcised. But is it mentioned in the Bible? He was born in a manger, and his parents went straight from Bethlehem to Egypt; I don't think Joseph, a carpenter, had the necessary training to do the operation himself. Did they find a rabbi in Egypt to do it? Only, that's quite a distance, isn't there some timeframe in which you're supposed to get the procedure done?
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

RW: "massive benefits"??? What in the name of Jesus' foreskin are you talking about? And it's not hard to figure out it's an unnecessary piece of skin. Still, makes you wonder what Abraham was smoking when he decided to let THAT be the covenant between God and Israel.

No, Mary and Joseph went to Egypt directly from Bethlehem to escape Herod's henchmen. I saw the movie, which is just as good as being there.

Joseph did have some tools on hand as I recall, being a carpenter.
I still can't figure out what's up with that procedure. Why would it occur to someone to start doing that?

Jesus was circumcised 8 days after He was born. In Luke 2:21.
If you read the different accounts of the Birth of Jesus. He did not flee to Egypt until Jesus was 2 years old. The star come over Bethlehem the day Jesus was born, the wise men followed the star for 2 years before they seen Jesus. Everyone wants the wise men at the stable. They were never there.

>>"Why would it occur to someone to start doing that? "<<
because god told them to.
theres no real logical way for them to have known it would not be harmful and would have the massive benefits it did.

signifigantly higher degree of sanitation with far less work, (especially considering at the time there was no running water) some medical problems are pretty much entirely eliminated by circumcision.
did you know that uncircumcised men can trade a yeast infection back and forth between their spouse and themself? its essentially impossible for a circumcised man to have, carry or transmit a yeast infection, from what I've read its very easy for an uncircumcised man to.
but the main thing is the fact that sanitation is much better, and sanitation leads to better general health.
and maybe the instinctive "you want to cut WHERE!?" aversion to it is part of the point. I'd have to have REALLY good reason, and/or trust the person trying to get me to do that, to a rather extreme degree. its not going to be something to be taken lightly.

And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. (Luke 2:21)

luke 2:21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

It's within the first two weeks. So it could have been done before they left for Egypt. Holy foreskin batman.
