My new puppy will be here tomorrow but my schedule is kind of tight. School starts at 7:40 in the morning. I go to school a half hour away and I can't drive myself home. I stay at this one place until 6:30 pm which is when I get picked up to go home. Nobody else gets home until at least 7:00 pm. I don't know if it is a good choice to leave my new puppy alone for so long during the day. What should I do?

OK. I really appreciate all the answers I have been getting! Thank You Guys sooo much!

But the thing that I also wanted to say was that when I get home, I'm probably only going to focus on her. All of my homework will most likely be done and some days I'll be able to go home early. Your answers for not getting the dog are probably the best thing to do, but I don't know if I want to give up this chance.

Why are you getting a puppy? If you feel you need a pet, a cat would be a much better choice for you. A puppy/dog needs more attention than you'll be able to give it & it isn't fair to the animal to belong to a human who can't keep normal hours. While you are gone, that puppy will probably cry & bark for attention, ruin shoes & furniture & pee/poop wherever it can. I've read that its best to cage a dog during the day since they don't usually soil where they sleep. However, a puppy doesn't know better. You should know better than to get a dog; you should be thinking of the dog instead of your desire to get a pet you are not equipped to care for properly.

You should not get the puppy. Let whomever has the puppy now keep it. It is not the right time in your life to support a puppy. Wait till you grow up and your schedule is less hectic. Believe me, it only gets worse as you get older.

EDIT TO ADD:

Your adult dog would need to be walked 45 minutes in the morning, and 45 minutes at night with a 30 minute walk/exercise at LEAST in the middle of the day. Puppy's however need to be let outside much more frequently. Even if you crate your puppy, it will need to be let outside to potty nearly every hour.

I know you want a dog sweetie, but what about when you go to college? Can you take the dog with you? What about when you get involved with a sports team? Want to go to Prom? It's not the right time in your life. You need to commit the next 10-15 years to being this dog's best friend and it just doesn't sound like your schedule will allow for it.

I waited 36 years to get a dog. First I did my schooling, then I had my family and career, and only now that my kids are 16 and 12 and I'm working in the same city I live that I decided I could handle the responsiblity of the dogs. I leave at 9am and come home most lunches to let them out and play for an hour. If I can't get home my high school daughter let's them out at about 3pm. I'm usually home at 6pm and then it's a matter of CONSTANTLY keeping my eye on them.

Wait a while. When God closes a door, he opens a window. You'll have another opportunity when the timing is right.

Don't get a puppy! A puppy needs lots of care and time. If you leave at 7:40 and don't get home till 7:00 pm...that's 12 HOURS! Could you hold it as a baby for 12 hours? Why not adopt an older dog from the pound or a rescue? One that has been housetrained and doesn't require as much training and time? Tell them you can't take the dog because you don't have the time.

Have by no skill had a pug previously, so i'm not confident in the journey that they re the style that ought to get connected to their previous proprietor. i have heard from those who pugs are very loving, although. although, on the grounds that he's in elementary words a 6-mo doggy, as long as you're taking good care of him & play with him a lot, i do not imagine he will bypass over the past proprietor a lot. i imagine older dogs are those that ought to have this kind of difficulty, on the grounds that they have probably already accepted a similar type of existence style because the previous proprietor (what time the previous proprietor oftentimes receives off the mattress & takes them out interior the morning, no matter if or not they're allowed to sleep on the settee or mattress previously, etc).

I would not suggest that you dont get the puppy...the puppy needs a lot of attention and campanship and it needs to play with someone...you should get the puppy when your schedule is not tight and you have a lot of time on your hands...as i said before a puppy is a big resonsibilty...hope this helps

Unless you can take the dog with you, don't get the dog. 12 Hours a day away from the dog will scar it emotionally.

Thats not really good. Your puppy might need attention. Plus you will need to potty train him and he might tear up things being by himself.

Make sure he's potty trained right away. They can get used to being alone and entertain themselves with toys. Many suggest that you get them a friend to keep them company.
