Eat something sensible, like grilled chicken or lowfat beef, with a lot of vegetables. Most experts recommend staying away from carbs after 6-7 pm.
Yes, not taking in enough calories can slow down your metabolism. The average woman needs at least 1200 calories a day. Anything less than that can deplete your body of essential nutrients.

Not eating enough will indeed slow down the metabolism this way. If you don't feed your body it will begin producing an enzime that actually promotes fat stores and eats muscle.
Protein is the king of all as far a your body goes, everybody knows carb help produce energy but without proper protein intake you can actually lose more muscle thus you actually get fatter.
Protein is muscle if you dont get enough ,and by your writing you are a very active lady, then you indeed eat your muscle thus all the hard work is naught.
70% of any weight loss or weight gain and by weight I mean FAT is nutrition.
After you get home have a good meal of carbs protein and vegtables. If you were overweigfht to a larger degree I would say cut back a little on the carbs but from your lifestyle you need them to stay on top of your game.
Enjoy life as it goes by so so fast, rest, eat healthy meals, and good excercise is a wonderful way to take care of the temple God gave you.

I run a lot myself, and what you should eat after such a long workout should be:
1.- a Banana (it will give you the Potasium you lost through sweating)
2.- an apple, an orange or some citric fruit
3.- Carbs, plenty of them (noodles, pasta, bread, rice, potatoes)
4.- If your intention is to gain muscles, then you should also eat a lot of Proteins (these protein powders or that kind of stuff) around 30mins after workout.
If you do everyday more than 30 Minutes on the threadmill, be sure to eat enough carbs (not fats, and not so many sugars).

Something that will aid in the recovery mode like a high nutrtion, moderate protein shake. Since it's liquid it will digest faster and not put your body through a 4- hour phase. Your body will break down the muscle and build it up naturally, but asome nice vitamins and protein won't hurt. If you can, throw in some flax oil and fruit.

I'll give you a great article in a second for great post workout meal ideas. But first, you should seriously consider getting rid of your body part split routines... full body training gets a much better hormonal and metabolic response. Here's the meal ideas:

after endurance workouts, load up on carbs so you have energy for the next workout (called carb-loading).
after lifting, load up on protein.
you should probably eat a combination of both after each, maybe staggering it a little according to the type of workout.
pasta and nuts are excellent choices.
your metabolism is boosted right after a workout, and eating does help.
