Needless to say, you obviously sound as if you have NO CHILDREN of your own yet...

Once you do, you will need some solid foundation for teaching them good moral fiber and some fortitude, one way or the other... And soon enough they will grow up and ask you where you get your own moral foundations from.

I'd say that HONESTY is usually one of the TOP PRIORITIES to teach one's child/ren early on...

Peace be with you.

Subjecting children to anything could be considered child abuse if you want to go that route....people raise their own as they believe and perhaps were raised themselves. My neighbor's children do not eat Veggies because she does not eat veggies, isn't that depriving her children from important vitamins and minerals that they need to grow??? Oh my what will I do??? Why force a non religious life on your children then? What if perhaps some of their friends are religious and it helps them throughout their lives and your children want to be involved, aren't you holding your children back from being able to be who they want to be?
In my opinion a good parent is one who shows their children not only the path that they feel is best but other paths that may benefit them as well. Subject them to religion if you wish, also allow them to decide not to follow it if they wish. Do not show them the religious path, but do not block it simply because your own mind can not fathom what the powers and hopes and dreams that believing in something will do for our future America. FREEDOM OF RELIGION

I do understand where you are coming from!

Before I had children....I looked to all religions for truth and to find my place, however, I always felt like a hypocrite.

My children gave me the strenght to understand that there is beauty in all religions and no ONE religion is correct. This *truth* guided me to deism, which is what I teach my children.

God is real, and that is all that I know. That is all my children need to know. Once we believe in that one and only truth ...all else follows!

So that there are cadres of little soldiers that carry on the ideology of the parents that then feel they have done what they were told? somewhere the predijuce, hate , and the moral high ground comes to fruition? and somewhere in a 3rd world country a cleric beats the same mantra into a young and impressionable mind to have his side "soldiered" by the little ones? and the beat goes on?

The answer is simple: You don't have to. My ex-husband and I both are allowing our daughter to make her own decisions about religion by exposing her to a wide variety of faiths, and by encouraging her to be friends with people of many different cultures and religions.

I'm guessing that you didn't have any parents to raise you.....you see that's what parents do, they teach their children what they know and past down the family traditions, this includes religion.

Failing to lead my children and helping them understand the true meaning of life and their purpose on earth, now that's child abuse.

We do so because we actually BELIEVE in something. If you don't really believe in anything, then you will just let your children drift aimlessly through life, thinking that this world is all there is to live for. How sad.

No, I rather subject them to religion than to subject them to vulgar MTV, and VH1 nasty rap music, and dirty dancing, imitating sex onstage and so on.. at least religion, is not teaching a kid to walk around holding their D**Ks all day .

When my kids where young, they said, the other kids made fun of them because we didn't go to church. So, we all went to church as a family. After 2 years all 5 kids said, O.K., that's enough. Smart kids.
