I wouldnt say there is one thing.. i think there is several....
Communication, respect, sense of humor, and trust.
all these are essential. i think communication is always good so that there is no misunderstandings... respect is there so that no one gets taken for granted.. or in turn hurt. Sense of humor.. to laugh at things and never be too serious that you cant take a joke.. trust.. so that the wo of you can grow and change as people but still trust each other to allow you both grow and learn.

the most important thing in a relationship is mutual understanding. u should be forgiving at times and at times u should be compromising... also patience and the will to be in that relationship is very important...
