Avis are kinda tricky. They use coder -decoder applets during creation and replay. These run simultaneously in tandem with the player being used. When you try to play in windows media player and fail, including a no-play, a vid without audio, or an audio without vid, usually the title will show in color and/or an error message will appear. Click on web help or the title itself to get to a page describing the error. This will sometimes include a possible fix...i.e. a single codec download. Another approach is the "shotgun" approach. The CODEC pack downloads which are everywhere. Type Codecs in the search bar and you will find a free Pack somewhere. Install this and I'm sure it will solve all your avi problems, and it will fix them in all players. Restart the computer before attempting to play the movie again. Tip, find a pack which includes divx and xvid codecs if possible. These are 2 special avi files which require a little special codec trreatment to play.

Generally a PC starts playing AVI file because all the drivers & codecs are installed through the OS. But some compressed AVI files need encoding. You need Directx, Divx codec to run AVI files. Download these from web. All are free.

It is the abbreviation for Audio Video Interleaved. It is pronounced A, Vee, Eye, not Avee or Avie. AVI is a Microsoft multimedia file format, similar to MPEG and Quick Time, used by Video for Windows. You may need fresh media player. Go to realplayer.com to download realplayer the software and it will playback AVI files for you. Enjoy!
