At the time when the Nicean and Apostles creed were written only the Catholic Church existed. There were no other Christian denominations such as Baptists or Lutherans

The Catholic Church has referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 AD, when the term appears in the Letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans:

Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church.

All of this was long before the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed from 325 A.D. which states, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church."

Earlier in the Creed we already state that we believe in Jesus Christ (are Christian) and changing catholic (little "c" meaning universal) to Christian would significantly change the 1,681 year old statement of our faith.

With love in Christ.

Many churches do make the substitution. The small "c" catholic does not refer to the Roman Catholic church. It literally means "universal." Because of the confusion, "Christian" is used.

the creed was written when there was only one universal/catholic church. becuas eof this the roman Catholic church was created to bring all together. we say it with a small c and the meaning is universal not Roman Catholic.

Personally, I avoid anything with the word 'Catholic' in it. I prefer to follow what it says in the Bible.

Even if the catholic church was the original church, I (personally) believe that it has strayed too far from the truth.

if you think that Catholics are Christians then i guess so. Christian means little Christ because we follow after Christ. Catholics follow after Paul and put all the emphasis on him. they pray to the saints and Marry. and believe that God is 3 people. they actually use the word people or persons. this is not found anywhere in the Bible rather it says the oposite.
