There are MANY diagnostic labs that test both human and veterinary samples, but there are fewer vet only labs. In order to work at the former, you most definitely need that med tech degree- either BS (MT) or AA (MLT). For job security, I would choose the "human" route and look for one of those labs doing BOTH kinds of samples.

I'd go for the MLT degree. You can use that in a veterinary context as well, and it will probably be better for lab work, since a vet tech is more analogous to nursing.

But I May be biased. I'm an MLT.
