A long time ago pigs were used as a sacrifice. Easter was a sexual goddess in an egg and babies were sacrificed, their blood was painted on eggs. Well now you know, but don't just tell anybody.

I read in the book "Imponderables" that the reason ham is associated with Easter is because the Pagans had a tradition of burying pork legs in the sand near a body of salt water after the fall slaughter. By spring the meat would be fully cured, and ready for eating.
I found the same story from this book at:

Its just considered a special feast. You can use a turkey, or anything for that matter. You might ask around and find that it was just your family that used ham every Easter.

Easter Sunday is to celebrate the Rising of Christ from the grave. When he came, he abolished all the "cloven hoof rules" that the Tribes of Israel had. Therefore, PORK IS GOOD IN THE EYES OF CHRIST, SO WE EAT TO PROVE THAT THE LAWS ARE DEAD BECAUSE OF CHRIST.

depends on which region.... we eat it becuase most of our family were raised on farms and raised pigs - like so many waaaaay back. others -- becuase when Christ died and rose, thus fulfilling the scriptures the old ways were just that - the old ways as Christ fulfilled all the reasons for their scarifices.... they were fulfilled and thus - new came into order. avoiding ham was the old - celebrating Christ life and sharing in the new....
let them eat ham ; )

It is a survival of the ancient habit among the English of eating a gammon of bacon on that day to show their contempt for the Jewish custom of not eating pork.
